Milk Bread Starter

This recipe is a core component of the Milk Bread recipe. It could also be used in any other bread recipe.


Servings

Makes approximately 1 cup of starter, which should be enough for two loaves of bread.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup of bread flour
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup water

Special Equipment

  • None

Steps

  1. In a small sauce pot, whisk together flour, water, and milk
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring often
  3. Remove from heat once the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon (5 - 8 minutes)
  4. Pour into a cup or bowl, and cover with plastic wrap

Storage

Stays good in the fridge for at least 5 days.
