One time my partner and I were at our local grocery store. It was around Halloween time, and so right in the main aisle they had their main, 4-sided display of assorted Halloween candies and treats.

Now I tend to feel weird for it, but I love popcorn balls. I don’t know if it’s the Ohio in me or what, but I feel like they’re such an underrated snack. Seeing as it was that time of year, one of the first things I looked for in the display were popcorn balls. Alas, there were none to be found. So sad.

Near the end of the shopping trip, we were walking past the display again while on our way to the registers when an older gentleman stopped us. “Excuse me, do you know if they have any popcorn balls?” he asked. I was honestly a little shocked because not only did I know the answer, but that was one answer I never thought would be useful! I let him know that I had been looking for them myself, but couldn’t find them. He thanked me, and we went our separate ways.

To this day, I still wonder, and have it as a vocal stim, “I wonder if that guy ever found his popcorn balls.”
